Teaching Tip: Spatial Relationships

Having your students master spatial relationships concepts will provide them with an important foundation for math, science, and geography.  Make sure your students understand the spatial concepts of position, direction, and distance. Provide concrete experiences wherever possible.
  • Examples of important position concepts include: above, below, inside, outside, top, bottom, perpendicular, and parallel.
  • Examples of important direction concepts include: left, right, forward, backward, up, down, across, and diagonal.
  • Examples of important distance concepts include: close, near, far, and midway.
